David Sedaris at Sam Wellers

Last night David Sedaris read part of his book at Sam Wellers and then signed books. The reading took about 45 minutes, and it was hilarious. He read portions of an unpublished story about some flies that ate vomit, and how one of them was so stuck up and pretentious because she had eaten the deputy governor's wife's puke. It was genius. He then did a Q&A, and some of the questions were so stupid that they made me cringe. Some examples were:

- How's your sister?
- How's your brother?
- If you could be a mythological animal, what would you be?
- Have you gone to the Louvre?

Painful.

He was good, though, and gave great little monologues loosely based on the questions, so he fixed the awkward moment and made it good.

The signing went really smoothly. He chatted with everyone for a few minutes and was very gracious. If I had to mention my one complaint, it would be the jokes. When he did the reading, he read some jokes that people had shared with him, and that was all good, but when he was signing people's books he started telling us jokes, and I wasn't crazy about that. It just felt very juvenile. It all felt like a desperate attempt to be funny and charming. I understand that it is hard to come up with funny stuff to say all the time, but then, he didn't have to. Just being there, saying hello and signing my book would have been perfect. But, oh well, the guy did an awesome show and that's what we went there for, and it was exciting to actually talk to him after hearing his voice on tape for so long.

Here's his answer to the question "Have you ever heard of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints?" Sorry about the crappy audio. I'll probably add subtitles eventually.

Siding + Some Random Stuff

I finished the siding in our garage. Actually, I finished like a week ago. And before that, I finished a second fence, but I keep forgetting to take a picture of it.

Anyway, before and after, blah, blah, blah:

When I finished putting up the first 6 panels, I just couldn't stand that groove on the two on the left were a little bit off from the rest, so I unscrewed them and put them back a little higher this time.

Megan painted the office and living/dinning room gray. I took a picture before she finished so both colors can be seen. She says that she wants to emasculate the house, because it feels too feminine. I like the gray. Now we need to put up some crown molding, because it looks really nice against the white door frames, so the crown molding might make a create nice effect too.

__________
Also, I walked by the corner of 300th and 300th street this week. You might wander what's the big deal, right? Well, they were 300th east and 300th east. Bet you don't have one of those in your neighborhood.

I Suck at Photoshop

.

But not so much as you. So that makes me feel better.

So, I was watching that awesome YouTube series "You Suck at Photoshop" and I learned how to use the mask tool. It's awesome. I've never used it before, and it's cool what you can do with it. Well, not so much, but I tried it in my face (and then in Meg's), and this is what I came up with:

I guess I will not replace our adoption blog's header with this. For now. I might use it to inspire some pitty if I get desperate, though.

Meg went crazy updating her blog, and she posted a really cute video of Maura doing a 180 turn of her head to watch me. It's really touching, considering that she wouldn't look at me for like a solid month. I guess that I take some getting used to.

The Meanest, Creepiest, and yet, Coolest Piece of Bridge Mix Ever

This is what came out of a bag of bridge mix we got at WinCo:
But if giving us a mean face wasn't enough for this little guy, see what happened when you flipped it over:
So rude. And yet, so incredibly awesome!

Why We Like Ogden

Well, people may know O-Town for the crime (our own Ogden Trece Gang made it to a National Geographic show. Yeeeh!), for our crazy people, because the police here are actually busy, etc. But all is not bad in Ogden. Things are clearing up. We have indoor sky diving and surfing now. How many other towns can claim that, huh??

But besides that, Ogden is a town with a lot of history, and the Union Station is an example of the cool architecture that can be found here.

And if you go to downtown, east of Washington Boulevard, you'll see the coolest houses and buildings. I tell you, one day we'll end up there!
What I like the most about these houses is that they have a lot of personality. They are not those cookie-cutter new houses that you see popping everywhere now. A few blocks from our house there is a whole neighborhood of new mansions, they are huge, but they all look pretty much the same. I probably wouldn't pass the opportunity to live in one of those, though :), but if I had to choose, that Russian looking house up there looks pretty awesome to me...

Weber State in Spring

The show is melting, and campus is looking really nice. The fact that most of the trashy buildings are gone and a bunch of new, awesome looking ones have been erected to replace them really helps...
I love the duckies.
